Here’s your Weekend Read.

POINTS + MILES

The current Capital One Venture offer combines 75,000 miles with a $300 Capital One Travel credit, creating up to $1,050 in straightforward travel value when the requirements are met. You don’t need to learn complicated points transfers to use the bonus—you can redeem miles toward eligible travel purchases. The important catch: the $4,000 spending requirement should come from spending you already planned, not purchases made just to earn the bonus.

Chase is offering a 70% bonus when transferring Ultimate Rewards points to Marriott Bonvoy through October 15. But the bigger balance doesn’t automatically mean better value. Once transferred, Chase points become Marriott points and lose their flexibility. Find the Marriott hotel and award price first, then transfer only the number of Chase points you need. This can help stretch your points when you already have a specific Marriott stay in mind.

Citi’s 48-month rule is an important detail to check before applying for a card with a large welcome bonus. In general, eligibility can depend on when you last received a bonus on the same card or a related card, meaning a previous bonus may affect whether you qualify today. Before applying, check your bonus history and the card’s current terms—not just the headline 125,000-mile offer.

SMART TRAVEL

Skytrax’s 2026 rankings put Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific at the top, with six Asian carriers making the global top 10. But the overall ranking doesn’t necessarily tell you which airline is best for your trip. Individual categories can look very different—such as economy, business class, food or entertainment. When choosing an airline, look beyond the overall ranking and check the specific cabin and experience you’ll actually be flying.

Travel insurance doesn’t automatically protect you from every trip problem. Policies pay only when a covered event triggers the benefit, and even “cancel for any reason” coverage may reimburse only 50%–75% of eligible costs. Before buying, check the exclusions, qualifying events and actual reimbursement amount. The cheapest policy isn’t necessarily the most useful—the important question is whether it covers the specific risk that could cost you the most.

A new analysis found that Lisbon, Manchester, London Stansted, Nice and Milan Malpensa can be among Europe’s more stressful airports, based on factors such as delays, security waits and traveler reviews. The practical takeaway isn’t to avoid them—it’s to plan for the airport, not just the flight. If you’re connecting or departing from one of these airports, allow extra time for security, terminal navigation and potential delays.

Starting October 19, 2026, some disruptions will be classified differently under new DOT rules, potentially affecting whether airlines provide meals, hotels or ground transportation. But refund rights are separate: a qualifying cancellation or significant schedule change can still entitle you to a refund if you don’t accept the alternative. When disrupted, check both your airline’s customer-service commitments and your DOT refund rights—they’re two different protections.

LIFESTYLE

There’s no universal “right” number of showers. Sweat, activity, skin type and season all matter more than sticking to a rigid schedule. If you exercise or sweat heavily, showering afterward can help, while very hot or long showers can dry your skin. A simple approach: watch for sweat, odor, oiliness and dryness, then adjust your routine accordingly.

You don’t necessarily have to become a natural early bird to make mornings easier. Morning light, dimmer evenings, a consistent sleep schedule and earlier caffeine cutoffs can help shift your body clock earlier. The biggest takeaway: don’t try to overhaul your schedule overnight. Gradually move your bedtime and wake-up time while giving your body consistent light cues.

Regular reading for pleasure is associated with better cognition, lower stress and greater well-being, according to a recent review. The research doesn’t prove that reading directly causes these benefits, but the potential upside is simple: you don’t need to read for hours or choose a “serious” book. Pick something you genuinely enjoy and make reading a regular habit—even a few pages can give your brain a break from screens.

Why worry, it will probably never happen.
